New Product Award

Application

The purpose of the NSPE New Product Award program is to stimulate and recognize the full spectrum of benefits that come from the research and engineering of new products. These include added employment, economic development, strengthening of the nation's international competitive position, and contribution to the public's standard of living. These benefits result from research and development which engineers make their unique contribution. Administered by the Professional Engineers in Industry (NSPE-PEI) Practice Division, this competition recognizes the results of those efforts and the foresight of the companies whose aggressive policies bring new products to the marketplace. The award program attracts extensive media attention to both the engineering profession and the manufacturer.

Any new product, machine, process, or material that has been developed and manufactured in the United States may be entered, provided it was first placed on the market during the four-year period ending the July 1 preceding the nomination due- date of July 1. Up to three entries may be submitted by each state society. Nominations are grouped according to size of manufacturing company, winners being selected in three employment categories: small, medium-sized, and large. Judging is performed by the NSPE-PEI Awards Committee, applying the following criteria: economic contribution, including sales and number of jobs created; ingenuity in use of engineering principles and materials; and improved functions, ease, and savings in use and overall benefits.

Nominations are made on the prescribed form available upon request from the Professional Engineers in Industry, NSPE. Photos of the product and company facilities should be included, along with any company or product literature that may be helpful. A sheet listing all material submitted should be attached to the entry. Entry material is not returned unless prior arrangements are made.

Entries mailed by NSPE affiliated state societies must be postmarked no later than July l. (Earlier submission dates may be established by the state societies.)
