NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Contact: Julie Wall, 208-426-0636, ispe@rmci.net POCATELLO ENGINEER AWARDED IDAHO EXCELLENCE IN ENGINEERING AWARD Boise, Idaho – March 5, 2004 – James A. Higgins, PE has been chosen to receive the Idaho Excellence in Engineering Award. His selection was made by consensus of the Idaho Society of Professional Engineers (ISPE). This peer-nominated honor recognizes significant engineering accomplishment and professional engineering society contribution. Higgins has been a licensed Professional Engineer in Idaho since 1939. His work has focused primarily on irrigation projects, roads and dams. He was responsible for laying out the Blackfoot Canal as well as for designing and implementing a system to reuse J. R. Simplot and the City of Pocatello wastewater streams to irrigate cropland without polluting the Snake and Portneuf rivers. As a professional society, ISPE promotes and recognizes quality engineering work and provides professional development opportunities for Idaho’s engineers. The organization has a public information program to demonstrate how engineers and engineering affect the daily lives of Americans. Growing the next generation of engineers by providing programs for elementary through high school students is also central to the mission of the society.
