NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Contact: Julie Wall, 208-426-0636, ispe@rmci.net RETIRED IDAHO STATE UNIVERSITY ENGINEERING PROFESSOR AWARDED IDAHO EXCELLENCE IN ENGINEERING EDUCATOR AWARD Boise, Idaho – March 5, 2004 – DeWitt T. (Tal) Neill, PE has been chosen to receive the Idaho Excellence in Engineering Educator Award. His selection was made by consensus of the Idaho Society of Professional Engineers (ISPE). This peer-nominated honor recognizes engineering educators who have had a significant impact on the engineering profession in Idaho. Neill was a Professor of Engineering at Idaho State University from 1968 until his retirement in 1998. His education includes a B.S., an M.S., and a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering. Neill taught numerous courses at ISU including transport phenomena, heat transfer, energy conversion, and nuclear reactor theory and design. He completed a number of research projects and did summer work and consulting with the Idaho Nuclear Corporation, its successor, EG&G Idaho, Inc, and Westinghouse Idaho Nuclear Company at Idaho Nuclear Engineering Laboratory. Neill served on the Idaho Board of Professional Engineers and Professional Land Surveyors from 1987 - 1998, worked on several National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) committees including examination and governance, and served five yeas as one of the NCEES representatives to the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). Neill has been an active member of the Idaho Society of Professional Engineers for almost 40 years, serving in offices including State President and National Director. As a professional society, ISPE promotes and recognizes quality engineering work and provides professional development opportunities for Idaho’s engineers. The organization has a public information program to demonstrate how engineers and engineering affect the daily lives of Americans. Growing the next generation of engineers by providing programs for elementary through high school students is also central to the mission of the society.
